The starting place for this walk will now be the Killakee Car Park (O 121 224) not Cruagh CP. Same time.
Please note that the A Walk on 17th December will start from the Glendalough Visitors Centre Car Park. This change is necessary as the Upper Car Park closes at 4 p.m. The walk will hopefully end by that time, but it's nice to have a little wriggle-room!
The walks programme on this website for 'A' walks has been updated for 20th/27th August to align with the printed programme.
Note there is also a change to the start time on 27th which is an update from the printed programme. Note 9.30 start for 'A' walk.
Next Saturday's 'A' walk will now be led by Finian. BSF 10.00, cars to Glendalough Interpretive Centre carpark.
As Jill's trip to the Mournes in May had to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions, it will now be substituted for the walk previously planned for the 16th July. The meeting point and time is as before, i.e. 9.00am Whitehall carpark. This trip will again be subject to weather so please watch out for updates by text or email if the weather is not looking good.
If this second attempt has to be cancelled the walk originally billed for the 16th will go ahead.
The walk on Saturday 9th July will now be led by Finian Canavan. Details of route, start time and start point are not yet available but will be posted asap. Full information and reminders will be sent by email or text to those on the A walk data base.
The start time for the B Walk on 25th June has been brought forward to 9:45 at BSF. Further details contact Walk Leader.
Due to an unforseen error Jill has lost her store of mobile phone numbers for the 'A' walk text alerts! Currently 17 numbers have been restored but originally there were a lot more. If you would like to check if your number is on the list please email it to email@example.com. It is important that anyone who ever attends an 'A' walk, no matter how infrequently, is included on the list. It could be the very walk you decide to come on that might be altered or cancelled!
Web texting allows a text message to be sent to a number of recipients very quickly and easily. I used it to great effect to update people about my on/off walk in January which was eventually cancelled.
I now have on my web text data base 23 names and numbers of people who regularly attend 'A' walks. If a leader of an 'A' walk needs to contact people about any aspect of their walk, all they need do is to contact me. You can send details to me at jilla%@% > @cha.ie and I will circulate the group with their message. This takes only the time to cut and paste the message, and costs me nothing so I would encourage you all to use the facility without hesitation.
Please contact me if you would like to be included but are unsure whether your name is on my list. I would also encourage anyone who occasionally comes on 'A' walks, or who is considering coming along in the future, to add your name and number to the data base.
If leaders of other grades of walks are interested in setting up a similar system I would be very happy to advise!
An Invitation from Esther
I am intending to walk the ‘Wicklow Way’ in reverse, starting at Clonegal, and going by stages as far as the North Wall ferry terminal. As these various stages will all be linear walks, a car ferry- or bus will be necessary. The bus will only be viable if I get sufficient numbers. People intending to go on the walk will have to let me know a fortnight in advance so that I can book a bus. Anybody booking the bus will have to pay whether he/she goes or not, unless somebody else goes in their place.
The ‘Wicklow Way’ forms part of the E8 path, i.e. one of the European long distance paths. The E8 will eventually extend from the Atlantic in Kerry to Istanbul in Turkey via Ireland, England, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
Stage 4 takes place on 7th March, 2009. Further information on current Walks Programme. (See Photo Gallery for glimpses of the earliest stages, walked in spring 2008)
