32 County Highest Points

What a lovely idea for the CHA, I thought.  Climb all the highest points in each of the counties in Ireland.  It crosses all borders, it covers all corners of Ireland, it covers all grades of walks and it would appeal to like-minded people – members of the CHA - people who like to walk in the countryside.  What fun!

Map of highest peaks in 32 counties
26 pins in the map due to proximity of Sligo & Leitrim

There is a list of 27 hill tops, as there are some counties that share the same summit e.g. Mount Leinster is in both Co Carlow and Co Wexford.  The A Walkers will endeavour to climb the 27 tops over 2/3 years as some of the walks will require an overnight stay.  Hopefully members who are familiar with a county might take on the challenge of leading a walk in that county.  All grades of CHA walkers are invited to use this list to participate in either organising or leading a walk within their grade.
It is all for a bit of fun and adventure.  Everyone likes to try something new and hopefully this will add some new challenging and interesting walks to the CHA repertoire.
List of 32 CHP plus progress sheet available on the members section of the CHA website.

Submit New Walks now

It is now time to submit walks for the May - Sept 2016 walks card. The current collection of submitted walks may be viewed by signed-in members under the Members Only block in the right hand column.  This is the list of walks as submitted and with the dates bid for by the submitter. This is a work in progress and in no way constitutes a provisional programme until it has been edited by the walks committee. Walks may be submitted online here.

Change to Evening Walk 10th June

The walk begins at 7.30.   Venue is Briarwood housing Estate, Bray.

The meeting point is at a housing estate called Briarwood. This is situated beyond the top of the Vevay Road, very close to the Boghall Road and also to the roundabout situated at the Greystones end of the Southern Cross Road. This roundabout gives options to go to Greystones via Windgates.

Basically Briarwood is on the lefthandside as you leave Bray and head for Greystones and lies between Southern Cross and Boghall Roads.

Another landmark almost opposite Briarwood is the old Dell site.

There is parking available at Briarwood : as you enter the estate, immediately turn left and there are a few spaces there.  There is plenty more parking within the estate itself.

The walk does not require boots but it would be easier to have them. There is a gentle ascent and a good deal of flat walking.

It is a grade C and will last no longer than 90 minutes.
