Repair ZigZags with Mountain Meitheal 16th October

Email from Mountain Meitheal. Following the recent landslides in Glenmalure at Carrawaystick Brook some of the work carried out by Mountain Meitheal has been damaged. Fortunately the bridge remained in tact but because of the severe water surge down the brook we have had to reinforce the buttressing. This has been done by machine. We now need to repair the damage to the track leading to and away from the bridge. We also need to clear the debris from behind the cottage and replace the wooden steps leading away from the bridge with stone steps. To this end Mountain Meitheal is putting on an EXTRA WORK DAY on Saturday 16th October 2010.

This clean up operation is an ideal way for the walking community to “give something back”. This is a much used access route and we should all make an effort to support the landowner. We need bodies – lots of them. Mountain Meitheal will have some tools but maybe not enough so bring shovels, spades, buckets and work gloves if you have them. We would be grateful if all club secretaries could circulate this appeal to their members. Come prepared for all weathers, wear appropriate footwear and bring a pack lunch. A warm drink is advisable at this time of year. Meet at the Glenmalure Lodge car park at 10.30 am. Parking has been arranged - we will pool cars and drive to site. For further details if required contact Shay Walsh at 087 238 258 1 or at shaymwalsh@eircom.net Directions: In Laragh turn left at Lynams Pub on to the R755. After a narrow bridge turn right on to the Military Road. It is signposted to Glenmalure 14k. Continue on past the Shay Elliot monument on the left at the top of the hill. Continue down hill until you come to the cross roads. Turn left into the hotel car park where we will assemble. We will leave for the site at 10.30am sharp.
