Importing a .gpx file in Hiiker

The instructions for importing a walk into Hiiker differ as follows, depending on the platform you are using. In both cases, you should extract the .gpx file from the Zip file downloaded from the walks library prior to importing, and note its location after extraction.

Importing via the mobile app
  • Tap on the ‘Plan a hike’ panel on the home screen of the app. A map will be displayed.
  • Select ‘Options’ on the map screen and select ‘Import a GPX file’ from the displayed menu. A hike search panel will be displayed.
  • Tap on ‘Import GPX’ in the top right of this panel and select the .gpx file to be uploaded from your mobile device. The uploaded walk will now be shown on the map screen.
  • Select ‘Save’ to save the walk in your Hiiker account. You can add information about the walk during the save process. **NB** You will have the choice during this process to set the privacy for the hike – choose ‘Private’ in order to prevent it being publicly viewable.
  • The walk will then be accessible via the ‘My Hikes’ entry in the menu on your home profile page.
Importing via a web browser
  • To import a file as a walk plan, click on the ‘Create a Hike’ entry on the header menu on your main profile page. Then select ‘Import Hike’ on the left side of the page. Click on ‘Upload file’ on the popup panel and select the .gpx file for the walk you wish to upload. The details of the uploaded walk will be displayed. If you are happy with this, click on ‘Save Plan’ to add any required information and save the walk plan in your Hiiker account. This will then be accessible via the ‘My Hikes’ entry in the menu on your profile page. **NB** When saving the plan, you have the choice of ‘Who can view’ – select ‘Only I can view’ in order to prevent it being publicly viewable.
  • To import a file as a saved hike, click on the ‘My Hikes’ entry in the menu on your profile page, then click on ‘Import’ in the header menu. Choose the .gpx file for the walk you wish to upload using the ‘Choose Files’ button in the popup panel, then click on ‘Import Files’. The walk will then be accessible via the ‘My Hikes’ entry in the menu on your profile page. **NB** A hike imported in this way will be automatically saved as private. You can edit the hike details if you wish to make it publicly viewable.
