About us

Welcome to CHA Dublin

A hillwalking club for exciting hikes and friendly gatherings.

Explore hillwalking with CHA Dublin

CHA Dublin was founded in 1922 and has organised walks in Ireland and abroad for more than 100 years. Our members delight in the exhilaration of hillwalking in nature and have a wealth of experience to ensure that walks are both safe and sociable.

Our activities

We offer walks for all grades every Saturday mainly in County Wicklow. A walks calendar is issued three times in the year detailing the route and walk leader.

Club holidays are also organised each year, one in Ireland and one overseas. Other events include an annual BBQ at the end of August, a joint ramble with our sister club in Belfast in May, a New Year’s lunch every January and social evenings several times during the year which include a presentation by volunteers from within or outside the club.

Our story

CHA Dublin was established on Wednesday, September 13th, 1922 at number 4, Cavendish Row in Dublin, across the road from the Gate Theatre. The Dublin club was set up as an offshoot of an existing CHA organisation in Britain and a Belfast club followed in 1926. Today the British club no longer exists and both CHA Dublin and CHA Belfast are independent clubs. The two clubs interact on a social level and once a year we enjoy a joint ramble and meal afterwards.
